William J. Perry, known for his expertise in US foreign policy, national security and arms control, has served as the 19th US Secretary of Defence from 1994 to 1997. He was previously appointed as US Deputy Secretary of Defence (1993-1994) and as Under Secretary of Defence for Research and Engineering (1977-1981). Dr. Perry currently serves on the Defence Policy Board (DPB) and the Secretary of Energy Advisory Board (SEAB). He is a co-director of the Nuclear Risk Reduction initiative and the Preventive Defence Project at the Center for International Security and Cooperation (CISAC).
At present, Dr Perry is the Michael and Barbara Berberian Professor (emeritus) at Stanford University.
