Shatabhisha Shetty is the Director of the Asia Pacific Leadership Network (APLN), and co-founder and former Deputy Director of the European Leadership Network (ELN). Her research is focused on NPT and nuclear ban treaty issues, UK nuclear policy, arms control and nuclear deterrence. She also follows developments at NATO and in the OSCE and regularly speaks on UK leadership in the NPT.
Prior to establishing the European Leadership Network in 2010, Shata worked at the Royal United Services Institute for Defence and Security Studies (RUSI) in the Nuclear Analysis Program. In 2009 along with former Defence Secretary Des Browne, she established and ran the Top Level Group of UK Parliamentarians for Multilateral Nuclear Disarmament and Non-Proliferation, a cross party parliamentary group comprised of former senior British ministers and military figures. She has also held posts in the London headquarters of the British Council, the European Commission in Brussels and has worked for members of parliament in Westminster and Holyrood.
She has a Masters in International Public Policy from University College London and a BSC in Computer Science from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh. Outside of her professional commitments, Shata co-founded and co-chaired the UK Branch of Women in International Security (WIIS) a forum dedicated to advance the leadership and professional development of women in international peace and security. She is now an Advisory board member of WIIS-UK.
