Richard Foord MP was first elected to the UK House of Commons in a by-election in 2022, becoming the MP for Tiverton & Honiton. He was re-elected in 2024 for the new constituency of Honiton & Sidmouth.
Richard served in the British Army for a decade, retiring at the rank of Major. He received three campaign medals for service in Iraq and the Balkans. He served with the United Nations in Kosovo.
Richard subsequently worked at the University of Exeter and the University of Oxford in international-facing roles related to global partnerships and research security.
He sits on the House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee, as well as the Intelligence and Security Committee of Parliament. He is a member of the UK delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.
Richard was the Defence Spokesperson for the Liberal Democrats between 2022-2024. During that time, the Liberal Democrats embraced a policy of Continuous At-Sea Deterrence, alongside pressing for the widest recognition of the Reagan-Gorbachev Formula that a nuclear war cannot be won and must never be fought.
