Peter Rautenbach is a Canadian part-time PhD candidate at the University of Leicester, currently living in Germany. His research explores how AI-enabled decision-support systems shape human decision-making in nuclear crises. Using experimental wargaming, he studies how we can generate usable, high-quality data on human–AI interaction in nuclear settings.
Beyond his PhD, he focuses on the broader intersection of emerging technologies and conflict risk. His past work includes serving as an adjunct researcher with the Berkeley Risk and Security Lab on AI and wargaming, researching the intersection of solar geoengineering and conflict risk with the RESILIENCER Project, and studying AI–NC3 integration risks as a research fellow with CERI.
