Mr. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has served as the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva and Personal Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General to the Conference on Disarmament since 2 May 2011. From 1992 he held the posts of Deputy Minister and later as First Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan. From 1994 to 1999 he served as Minister for Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan. He was then promoted to Deputy Prime Minister and later the same year Prime Minister of Kazakhstan. He was Prime Minister from 1999 until 2002, when he was then appointed State Secretary for Foreign Affairs before becoming Minister for Foreign Affairs in 2003. Mr. Tokayev has also served as Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan.
