Hikmet Çetin served twice as Deputy Prime Minister of Turkey in 1978-99 and again in 1995, and was Foreign Minister of Turkey from 1991 to 1994.
He also served as the Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly from 1997-99 and on retiring from high office in Turkey was appointed NATO Senior Civilian Representative in Afghanistan from 2003-06.
He is a member of the Advisory Board for the European Leadership Network (ELN).
