Giorgio La Malfa is a former member of the Italian Parliament, economist, and former Minister for European Affairs.
He was first elected to Parliament in 1976 and served as a Member of Parliament since that time. He was also elected to the European Parliament from 1989 to 1991 and again from 1994 to 1999.
He has served as Minister of the Budget and Economic Planning from 1980 to 1982 and from 2005 to 2006 was Minister for European Affairs and Coordinator for national Lisbon Strategy in the third Berlusconi government.
From 1987 until 2001, he was secretary of the Italian Republican Party (PRI) and was President of the party from 2002 to 2006. He is currently a member of NATO’s Parliamentary Assembly and has been recently elected Vice President.
He is the author of several books and is a member of the Advisory Board for the European Leadership Network (ELN).
