Benno Zogg is Head of Strategy and International Affairs in Security Policy at the Swiss Federal Department of Defence. His work deals with fundamental strategic documents of Switzerland’s security and defence policy, and he assesses and contributes to respective political processes and to efforts of bilateral and multilateral security cooperation.
Between 2015 and 2022, Benno worked at the think tank of the Center for Security Studies (CSS) at ETH Zürich. In his last position, he was Senior Researcher, Head of the Swiss and Euro-Atlantic Security Team, and an editor of various publication series. Also, between 2017 and 2022, he was Co-Head of the Peace & Security program at the grassroots think tank foraus, and Security Correspondent at Monocle Magazine and Radio. Benno’s research dealt with security policy in Europe, foreign and security policy in Eastern Europe, Russian-Western relations, the war in Ukraine, the OSCE, and China’s influence and activities in these spaces.
Benno holds a BA in Political Science and Modern History from the University of Zurich and an MA in Conflict, Security and Development from King’s College London.
