Dr Azadeh Zamirirad is an Iran researcher and Deputy Head of the Africa & Middle East Division at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP) in Berlin where she provides policy advice to the German government, the Bundestag and other decision makers in Europe. Her research covers authoritarian regimes, elite dynamics and Iran´s foreign and security policy with a special emphasis on Iran´s nuclear program and strategic outlook towards the East. Prior to her work at SWP, she was editor of the international affairs journal WeltTrends and a lecturer of International Relations and Comparative Studies, focusing on the MENA region.
