ELN Policy Fellow Alice Billon-Galland participated in the Carnegie Europe Summer Academy on European defence industry in Brussels on June 20-21 2019.
Participants discussed how governments decide which capabilities to buy (and where to buy them), the benefits and pitfalls of EU defence cooperation, as well as the European defence market in a post-Brexit context. On the second day, Alice moderated a conversation on the advantages and risks of national vs. multinational collaboration on defence projects with NATO’s Assistant Secretary General for Defence Investment Camille Grand.
